CAPTIVE CHANNEL AND HOWARD JOHNSON CANADA PARTNER TO LAUNCH THE FIRST HOTEL DIGITAL COMMUNICATION NETWORK OF ITS KIND IN CANADAThe first hotel digital communication network of its kind in Canada, content focuses on tourism in an effort to fully enhance every traveler’s experience while staying at Howard Johnson hotels. This is achieved through a unique technology created by Captive Channel called Slivercasting. It allows each hotel to run customized programs and information relevant to their city or town rather than airing one generic loop of information. “We have received such incredible feedback from customers and clients who currently use the Captive Channel screens to get their local weather, learn about daily specials, and find out what’s going on in their community, that we knew partnering with a hotel chain like Howard Johnson to enhance their customer’s stay and travel plans would be a sure fit,” says Zee Najar, Co-Founder and President of Captive Channel. How does it work? This turnkey, state of the art system is hooked-up via the Internet through Captive Channel’s host computer. This gives Captive Channel the opportunity to upload the latest information daily to any screen at a moments notice. Content and graphics (aside from commercials) are all created in house, making it easy for the retailer to receive new information and digital imagery as often as required. “This is a great opportunity for us,” says Glen Blake, President of Howard Johnson Canada. “We’re excited to be leading the hotel industry with this new initiative.” Howard Johnson Express Inn at 8100 Lundy’s Lane in Niagara Falls and Howard Johnson Hotel by the Falls at 5905 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls were the first two locations installed and have now been running for three weeks. “Our guests find it convenient to view the local weather forecast so they can plan their outings accordingly,” says Howard Johnson Hotel by the Falls Director of Operations, Eric Marcon. “The Captive Channel screen (37’’) is a perfect compliment to our lobby atmosphere, its sleek design enables guests to enjoy the screen while waiting for our Falls and Attractions shuttle bus or while they are waiting to be checked into the hotel. I have to say we made the right choice – the screen will be an excellent addition to Howard Johnson hotels across the country.” The goal for both parties is to have 20 screens up and running before the end of the summer in Ontario alone. Further roll out across Canada is planned for later in 2007 and into 2008.
